This is a diploma programme designed for SPM leavers. If you wish to enroll in a university straight away after SPM, this programme is for you. There is no need for you to go to Matriculation or sit for STPM. You can be part of a 'distinguished technological university'. Be part of us. Be part of UMP. Diploma in Mechanical Engineering is aimed to equip the students with a strong theoretical foundation in Mechanical Engineering. In addition, you will be exposed to several projects that will enhance you practical skills. You will also develop a strong interpersonal skills through language and softskills courses. At the end of the programme, you will undergo a 6-month industrial training to expose you to the real engineering world.

Programme Objectives and Outcomes

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEO)

PEO 1
Graduates will have essential knowledge in improving productivity in mechanical engineering, manufacturing and service companies effectively.

PEO 2
Graduates will have competencies for career development or continuing study to higher level.

PEO 3
Graduates engage in lifelong learning and wealth development professionally and ethically.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES (PO)

Programme learning outcomes are specific statements of graduates’ knowledge, skills and attitudes that are evident in the programme objectives achievements. Consistent with faculty’s vision and mission, the following is the list of twelve (12) Programme Learning Outcomes:

PO1: Kownledge
Apply knowledge of applied mathematics, applied science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization as specifies in DK1 to DK4 respectively to wide practical procedures and practices.
PO2: Problem Analysis
Identify and analyse well-defined engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusion using codified methods of analysis specific to their field of activity (DK1 to DK4).
PO3: Design/Development of Solution
Design solutions for well defined technical problems and assist with the design systems, components or processes to meet specified needs with appropriate considerations for public health and safety, cultural, societal and environmental consideration (DK5).
PO4: Investigation
Conduct investigations of well-defined problems; locate and search relevant codes and catalogues, conduct standard tests and measurements.
PO5: Tool Usage
Apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering computing and IT tools to well-defined engineering problems, with an awareness of the limitations (DK2 and DK6).
PO6: The Engineering Technician and the World
Consider sustainable development impacts* to: society, the economy, sustainability, health and safety, legal frameworks, and the environment, in solving well defined engineering problems (DK1, DK5, and DK7).
PO7: Ethics
Understand and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of technician practice and including compliance with national and international laws. Demonstrate an understanding of the need for diversity and inclusion (DK9).
PO8: Individual and Collaborative Teamwork
Function effectively as an individual, and as a member in diverse and inclusive teams in multi disciplinary, face-to-face, remote and distributed settings (DK9).
PO9: Communications
Communicate effectively and inclusively on well defined engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, by being able to comprehend the work of others, document their own work, and give and receive clear instructions..
PO10: Project Management and Finance
Demonstrate awareness of engineering management principles as a member or leader in a technical team and to manage projects in multidisciplinary environments.
PO11: Life-long Learning
Recognize the need for, and have the ability for i) independent and life-long learning and, ii) critical thinking in the face of specialised technical knowledge (DK8).
